Spring has Sprung!

Well yesterday was such a lovely sunny day and today looks set for more of the same. This can only mean that spring has well and truly finally sprung!

Time to start thinking about warmer weather fashions and this year the trend for shorts keeps on rocking. This season's shorts are high waisted cut and vintage inspired. BoBu Couture is making them in a myriad of textiles and colours from vintage silk taffeta, to kitsch retro prints and bold florals.

Now the weather has picked up, it's time for us fair weather bikers to dust off our saddles and head back onto the open roads. With this in mind, how about this unique and handsome hand stitched saddle bag from Man About Town? It hangs from the bottom of your saddle, with enough space for a puncture repair kit, a spare inner tube or a few tools.

Being as this is Newcastle and for those of us forced to rise bright and early in this fair city, we know all to well, that even on the warmest of spring days, there can be a nip in the air! So the perfect solution to this is a beautiful, unique, hand knitted head wrap. This gorgeous Irish Granny creation is definitely a one-off. Made of very soft 50% lambs wool and 50% acrylic, in subtle yellows with golden brown and green pure wool highlights. Finished with a pretty wooden button.

Don't forget the clocks spring forward this weekend, so here is a little timepiece inspired, bit of Steampunk loveliness, for you to finish off with from Rule Brittania. A Steampunk inspired pendant in gold tones made with vintage clockworks with gold copper wire, pale pink glass pearls and pale pink Swarovski crystals. One-off and original.

Bye for now. See you soon with lots of our special Easter goodies from our talented crafters at Made in Newcastle.

St Patrick's Day Green Showcase

Realising near the end of our last post that St Patrick's Day is also this weekend meant that the only solution was to have another showcase. This time it's all green and I'm not just talking about recycled, handmade or eco friendly.

A Game of Two Halves on Green by Subtle Clothing
This limited edition T-Shirt is sure to please even the most dedicated of football fans and best of all it's printed on all organic cotton. Get in.

What can I say? I love bath stuff. Susan's wonderful bath salts are all home made and all kind on the skin. Yay.

No two record bowls are ever the same at Serendipity Central, so when I saw this “Irish Ballads” record by Connie Foley I knew it had to have a place in our St Patrick's Day showcase.

Baby Fox Brooch by Lucy Farfort
Incredibly cute! For a more subtle St Patrick's Day celebration this would be an ideal addition to your outfit.

There's still a touch of cold to the air so while you wait patiently for that summer sun this hat is the perfect way to keep you warm. It's decorated with an alpaca silk crochet shamrock which stands out nicely against the soft yarn of the hat.

Well that's our showcase, hope you all have a great time on St Patrick's Day.

I have a little request: let us know what you want to see, we'd like your suggestions for tutorial posts.
What do you want to make? What are you already making? Maybe you'd like to write a guest post for us? Get in touch. Either leave a comment on the blog or drop us an email at info@madeinnewcastle.org with your ideas.

See you all next time.

MiN Mother's Day Showcase

Mother's Day is coming up on the 18th over here in the UK and isn't far away in the rest of the world too. So we thought we'd make a few suggestions.

Lucy's happy illustrations are sure to bring a smile to your mum's face.

This card can be customised (we don't all call our mothers mummy after all), making it extra special.

European love for your jet-setting mum.

If your mum is anything like mine she has a handbag full of notes and can never find a pen, these notebooks are just the right side to fit inside even the most cluttered handbag.

This wonderful, original brooch is so soft. It's perfect for pinning onto any coat, cardigan or bag.

Spoil your mum, these bath bombs make the perfect addition to a relaxing long bath.

Mother's Day In Bloom by Jo's Little Card & Textiles Shop
Jo's cards are unique and custom made, drop her a line and she'll make one just for you.

Oh my, it's also St Patrick's Day soon (the day before Mother's Day) so keep your eyes open for a very green showcase coming your way soon.
